Steve Cherundolo, a two-time U.S. World Cup defender, spent so much of his soccer career in a northern German city, he became known as the “Mayor of Hannover.” He and his German wife have raised a family there.
Since retiring in 2014 after 16 seasons, the last 12 in the top-flight Bundesliga, he has built a coaching portfolio that includes first-team assistant, youth head coach and a position in German national team youth development.
But after more than two decades abroad, Cherundolo is looking to coach stateside. On Thursday, he said he has spoken with multiple MLS teams about their job openings.
