Stars coach Jim Montgomery has seen the changes in hockey's response to head injuries.
Montgomery played professional hockey for more than a decade beginning in 1993 -- an era in which knowledge about concussions was limited -- including 122 games in NHL. But with more knowledge about head injuries, Montgomery said the game's approach to them is "very different."
"You were guilted, a lot of times, into 'What's wrong with you? When you going to be back?'" Montgomery said earlier this week. "You'd get the looks. I saw teammates go out when they shouldn't have gone back out just because that was the mentality then.
