As first reported via a tweet from his old coach, Texas has signed forward Mike McMurtry to an amateur tryout this afternoon. He is a four-year college player for Northeastern.

The Texas Stars, American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL’s Dallas Stars, announced Thursday forward Mike McMurtry has signed an amateur tryout agreement with the team.
McMurtry, 23, joins the Stars after finishing a four-year career at Northeastern University, where he tallied 80 points in 141 games (20-60=80). The 6-foot, 200-pound native of Greely, Ontario served as an alternate captain during his senior season, and helped guide the Huskies to a berth in the NCAA Frozen Four tournament.
