The Stars traded for Maple Leafs defenseman Connor Carrick on Tuesday morning, sending a conditional seventh-round pick in next year's draft to Toronto. If Carrick plays in 50 or more NHL games this season, it becomes a sixth-round pick.
Depending on the time Tuesday morning, Carrick's future had different paths. At 9:24 a.m., the Maple Leafs announced they would be waiving Carrick as they whittled their roster. But two hours later, when the list of waived players was released, Carrick's name was absent. The Stars and Maple Leafs announced the trade at 11:50 a.
