KANATA, Ontario -- The Stars reached their darkest point Thursday, allowing an own goal to help the Ottawa Senators to beat them 3-2.
Ottawa had been shut out in its two previous games, so it needed all the help it could get. But in the end, Jiri Hudler dumping the puck into his own net late in the first period proved the difference.
"I wasn't trying to do it, it was just a mistake," Hudler said. "It was unfortunate."
In a move that embodied the frustration and foolishness that has been the 2016-17 season, the play was both humorous and heartbreaking.
