The Dallas Stars announced Monday that right wing Ales Hemsky underwent hip surgery and is expected to miss five to six months of action.
According to a news release from Stars general manager Jim Nill, Hemsky's surgery was repair a labral tear in his hip suffered during his time playing in the World Cup of Hockey."
Under that timetable, the earliest the Stars could expect Hemsky back would be late March or early April.
The Stars have had quite a bit of bad luck with injuries this season.
Jiri Hudler -- the top offseason addition at forward -- missed five games and Jason Spezza was out with a lower-body injury the past two games.
