The Stars on Sunday placed veteran defenseman Johnny Oduya on injured reserve, but then made the surprising recall of both Esa Lindell and Julius Honka from the AHL.
The Stars had seven healthy defensemen before Oduya was hurt Saturday, so they only needed to recall one player. The 35-year-old defenseman suffered the injury in the first period and briefly left the game. However, he returned and logged 14:59 in a 5-2 loss to Edmonton. By placing him on IR, the Stars will be without Oduya for a minimum of seven days.
Dallas could be taking advantage of the extra room on the roster to make sure they have several options in filling Oduya's spot or the Stars could be hoping to possibly play Honka and Lindell together as a pair.
