Stars' flurry of post-draft roster moves highlighted by addition of veteran defensman Marc Methot

The Stars took major steps toward shoring up their defense Monday, acquiring veteran blue-liner Marc Methot in a trade, waiving goaltender Antti Niemi with the intention of buying him out and signing defenseman Esa Lindell to a new contract.

Methot, who played the last five seasons with Ottawa, comes to Dallas via a trade with the expansion Vegas Golden Knights. The Stars gave up a second-round draft pick in 2020 and 18-year-old goaltender Dylan Ferguson, whom they chose Saturday in the seventh round of the entry draft.

Methot, 32, a 6-3, 225-pounder, has two years left on his contract at a salary of $4.
