WASHINGTON -- For Stars defenseman Dillon Heatherington, a season-opening stint in the AHL allowed the physical defenseman to work on his weaknesses: mobility and his offensive game.
He was recalled Friday and is expected to play his first NHL game this season Saturday in Washington against the Capitals.
"It's tough getting sent down," Heatherington said. "You never know if you're going to get called back up, so take advantage of the opportunity that's placed in front of me. Overall, I feel excited."
Heatherington serves as insurance as the Stars defensive corps remains a makeshift group currently.
