FRISCO -- For the first five games of the Stars season, assistant coach Todd Nelson was flying high. He coaches Dallas' power play, and his unit came out of the chute firing, scoring seven times in the opening five games, plugging away at a 46.7 percent clip.
With top-end talent like Tyler Seguin, Jamie Benn and Alexander Radulov, plus an elite player like John Klingberg distributing the puck at the point, the Stars power play looked every bit as top-end as the numbers showed. But staggered injuries to Radulov and Klingberg ruined the momentum, and the unit slumped into a drought.
