As trade talk heats up in the NHL, the Stars might be able to acquire a key player without even making a trade.
Defenseman Marc Methot has played just 16 games this season because of a knee injury, but he is skating this week and is scheduled to return to play Friday against the Blues. A healthy Methot could mean a massive injection of size and experience to a Stars team battling for a playoff spot in the toughest division in hockey.
"It really is like adding a really good player at the trade deadline," said forward Jason Spezza, who played two seasons with Methot in Ottawa.
