Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News: Detroit Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall lost a good friend in Gustav Nyquist at the trade deadline as the Wings moved him to San Jose.
Kronwall had met with Red Wings GM Ken Holland before the trade deadline and told him he wanted to stay with the team for the rest of the year.
The Toronto Maple Leafs and Columbus Blue Jackets had reportedly shown some interest in acquiring Kronwall.
“It’s flattering; I didn’t really see that happening,” said Kronwall of other teams being interested at the trade deadline.
