General manager Jim Nill has to make the Stars’ unusual goaltending tandem work on paper, but it will be up to coach Jeff Reese to make it work on the ice.
Dallas announced a three-year contract for Antti Niemi Monday that will average $4.5 million per season. When you combine that deal with the $6 million Kari Lehtonen will make next season, the Stars will be paying their goalies $10.5 million, more than any other team in the league.
And while Nill said the team’s finances can handle the burden in order to fix one of the most important positions on the ice, Reese will have a different kind of challenge.
