Hockey has changed, and the Stars must begin changing with it Friday morning

BOISE, Idaho -- Jim Montgomery's systems have been talked about plenty. Since the Stars hired him as the new coach in May, Montgomery and others have described his style as one that preaches puck possession and clean zone entries, relentlessness and selective shot-taking.

But until training camp began Friday morning, the Stars hadn't played his style. They hadn't implemented his systems and hadn't practiced under the former University of Denver coach.

"The best part was the communication," Montgomery said. "Players, if they weren't sure, were not afraid to speak up and ask questions. That's the way we get clarity and the way we play faster and better.
