Heika: Why the Stars needed a herculean effort to top Avalanche, and how they took a huge hit in the process

DENVER -- It took a herculean effort, but the Stars finally beat the Colorado Avalanche.

Dallas once again dominated the shot clock, and took the win in overtime, 4-3 when John Klingberg cranked up a slap shot in transition and beat Colorado goalie Calvin Pickard.

That broke an eight-game winning streak for the Avalanche and gave Dallas a huge win. The Stars move to 33-14-5 (71 points) and take on Central Division leading Chicago on Saturday.

"It's been almost the same song every game we've played, but this time we pushed through," Stars coach Lindy Ruff said.
