Heika: Stars' regular season closes in dramatic fashion, nail down first No. 1 seed since 2003

You couldn't have drawn up the ending to the regular season any better.

Now, the Stars need to see if they can continue this run in the playoffs.

Dallas rallied to beat Nashville, 3-2, Saturday and finished 50-23-9 with 109 points.

That is the second best record in the NHL behind Washington, the Stars first division championship since 2006, and their first No. 1 seed in the Western Conference since 2003.

"It's a tremendous accomplishment," Stars coach Lindy Ruff said. "There weren't a lot of people that picked us to be there. To be honest, I didn't think we could get there ourselves.
