No NHL coach was fired during the regular season, so the annual game of musical chairs has taken some time to get moving in 2018. But the summer could actually see several teams seeking new leadership behind the bench as four teams are currently without a head coach.
As such, the Stars could study different angles in their quest for a new coach after the retirement of Ken Hitchcock.
While the Stars followed some well-worn paths in selecting Hitchcock and Lindy Ruff, they appear unafraid of chasing an occasional unicorn this time.
General manager Jim Nill has said he will be open to interviewing people from every level of hockey, and while that could include veterans such as Alain Vigneault, Dave Tippett, Glen Gulutzan and Willie Desjardins, he also will be looking at young coaches from colleges and the minors.
