Andrew Cogliano was planning on sleeping in.
The Ducks played in Winnipeg the night before, so Cogliano set his alarm for 10:30 a.m. when he woke up in Detroit the next morning. Except the alarm wasn't what woke him up, instead rising with the news that he'd been traded to Dallas for Devin Shore.
"Woke up around 9:20 and saw Anaheim's GM's name on my phone," Cogliano said. "He wasn't calling to say good game last night. It was pure excitement when you find out. It's not the first time I've been traded before, but it's the first time it's happened in season.
