MANSFIELD -- Former Stars captain Derian Hatcher holds a distinction the franchise hopes he can relinquish soon: he's the last Stars captain to lift the Stanley Cup, when Dallas won in 1999.
The former menacing defenseman was back in North Texas on Thursday evening as the Stars bestowed a new honor upon him in naming a rink after him at the new StarCenter in Mansfield. The facility is the eighth one in the area and opened Thursday.
Hatcher now co-owns and coaches the Sarnia Sting of the Ontario Hockey League, about 50 miles from where he was born in Sterling Heights, Mich.
