The Dallas Stars had a promising start when Esa Lindell scored in the first 16 seconds of the opening shift. Despite strong play and dominating the rest of the period, the Stars gave up a power play goal to Dylan Larkin with only about 40 second left in the first period.
Going into the second tied, the Stars still put forth a tremendous offensive effort and did well resetting their offense after clearing the puck from their own zone. However, the Red Wings were to be the only scorers in the second, with another power play goal coming from Anthony Mantha about eight minutes in.
