The Dallas Stars officially announced the hiring of Denver University's Jim Montgomery as the team's head coach at a press conference on Friday.
He will replace Ken Hitchcock, who retired after one season in his return to Dallas in which the Stars finished second-to-last in the Western Division at 42-32-8 (92 points).
Montgomery, 48, has spent the past five seasons at Denver where he led the program to the NCAA men's Division I championship in 2017. He's the fifth head coach to jump from the collegiate ranks to the NHL, the last being Dave Hakstol of the Philadelphia Flyers.
