The Dallas Stars put out a press release yesterday that they have nominated Tyler Seguin to be their candidate for the King Clancy Memorial Trophy, which is given to the NHL player “who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community.” (Fun fact: the trophy is also the name of a How I Met Your Mother episode.)
We highlighted some of Seguin’s charitable and community work when he was named the Stars’ ambassador for the Hockey Is For Everyone initiative, but some of it bears repeating:
This season, Seguin donated $40,000 to Boys and Girls Club of Collin County for a new ball hockey court and learning lab refurbish, which the Dallas Stars Foundation matched with a $25,000 contribution in support of his efforts.
