As you’ve probably heard by now, rookie head coach Jim Montgomery has devised a checklist of different goals he wants the Dallas Stars to achieve in each of their games that he calls the “Process.” They are as follows:
- Win 56 percent of the faceoffs
- Zero undisciplined penalties
- Three-or-less odd-man rushes against
- Win net-front battle
- Win special teams
Perhaps it seems silly to break down an entire 60 minutes or more of hockey into just five objectives, but there’s a reason Montgomery focused on these specific points:
Of the Stars’ seven regulation losses, six have come in games in which they only checked off one part of The Process or less.
