Sweden is officially World Champions after beating Denmark (in Copenhagen) 3-2 in a shootout yesterday in the IIHF Championship. I promise you that even though I’m very tempted, I won’t make any Austin Powers 3 jokes about Goldmember being from Sweden and being obsessed with gold, mostly because that was not a great movie (to put it generously).
That being said, our favorite future Norris Trophy winner John Klingberg was recognized for his contributions to Sweden’s victory:
Klingberg, who finished the tournament with six points (one goal, five assists) and a plus-6 rating in 10 games, was the named the tournament’s best defenseman by the IIHF Directorate.
