This past Sunday, Dallas Stars defenseman Stephen Johns announced his retirement from ice hockey. Along with it, he told the world what he planned to do next: skate across the country to raise awareness for mental illness.
It all started when he watched a music video, featuring the singer walking across the country. That inspired him to do the same thing, only on roller skates:
“It was crazy,” Johns said. “But it’s what I wanted to do. I had something I wanted to do.”
Former Stars employee Jeff Toates is accompanying Johns on his journey, shooting footage to make a documentary of the journey.
