Jake Oettinger was set to be the goalie of the future for the Dallas Stars when they selected him in the first round of the 2017 NHL Draft. But then Colton Point proceeded to have a breakout year at Colgate, cementing the fact that despite Oettinger’s draft position, nothing was going to be handed to him outright.
Point turned pro this year and was recently sent down to the ECHL in Idaho after a rough start for the Texas Stars in Cedar Park. Oettinger is going through a similarly rough start at Boston University, though the team is still getting used to a new head coach after David Quinn left to take a job with the New York Rangers this offseason:
“I think he gave us some good nights in the net but those couple of games we didn’t score (but) it’s hard to play when you’re trailing for an extended period of time.
