When the Dallas Stars signed Dillon Heatherington to a one-year contract this past summer, there was no real certainty as to how they would use him in the 2018-19 year.
After acquiring the defender from the Columbus Blue Jackets at the 2017 trade deadline, the Stars quickly immersed him in the system. Heatherington was a top defender for the Texas Stars during the 2017-18 season while also making his NHL debut and playing six games with Dallas throughout the year.
He showed promise and looked to be a potential piece of the franchise going forward.
