FRISCO -- A week off from games and practices allowed Stars coach Jim Montgomery to reflect on the first act of his team’s season, a 49-game stretch in which Dallas bobbed up and down and settled into a Western Conference wild card spot with a 24-21-4 record.
Montgomery used the combined bye week and All-Star break to diagnose the team’s play that has resulted in the third-worst offense and the fourth-best defense in the NHL as the team tries for their first playoff berth since 2015-16.
And he also did some self-evaluation.
Montgomery, in his first season coaching in the NHL, said he thought he was consistent with his approach for two months.
