With Wesley Matthews leading the way, Mavs respond after humiliation

DALLAS -- Wesley Matthews really doesn’t want to hear about human nature. He refuses to let the Dallas Mavericks roll over, regardless of the ugliness of their record.

Matthews, a man with a max contract who still is mad that he went undrafted way back in 2009, plans to fight until the final whistle of what certainly seems like a lost season for the Mavs. And he considers it part of his job to demand the same kind of competitive spirit from his teammates.

“That’s the part of being a leader that keeps me up at night,” Matthews told ESPN after matching his season high with 26 points in a 111-103 win over the Indiana Pacers.
