With stars sitting, Mavericks drop preseason opener

The Mavericks’ start to the preseason was notable more for who wasn’t suited up rather than anything that happened in the 121-116 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies Monday night at American Airlines Center.

Luka Donu010diu0107 was expected to miss the opener with a left calf contusion. He was joined on the sideline by Kyrie Irving and newcomer Klay Thompson, both of whom were listed as out for rest purposes.

But fret not. Coach Jason Kidd said that the wraps will come off of Thompson soon enough and he will make his Mavericks’ debut after 13 seasons at Golden State.
