Why Mavs' Rick Carlisle felt need to watch film right after a game for first time in 15 years of coaching

Sometimes, as Rick Carlisle explained Thursday, a coach needs to "change things up a bit."

Wednesday night's 31-point home loss to Sacramento, and the Mavericks' 4-17 record, seemed to Carlisle like one of those times.

So during the game's final 4:05 he twice called timeouts he did not have. And after the game, he summoned Mavericks players and coaches to the locker room to watch tape of the third quarter, in which Dallas got outscored 29-12.

"I've never watched film after a game before in my 15 years of coaching," Carlisle said. "But last night, I felt it was the right thing to do.
