Why GM Donnie Nelson says the Mavs are positioned to make some noise this offseason following major trades

Thirty-three minutes after the NBA trade deadline, Mavericks president Donnie Nelson finally exited his American Airlines Center office and descended the staircase to the arena's basement practice court, visibly drained.

The Mavericks made no deadline-day trades Thursday, but considering what the franchise's brain trust pulled off during the previous six days, no one could accuse Nelson of slacking.

Two major trades. Four players traded. Six players acquired, foremost 7-foot-3 potential franchise cornerstone KristapsPorzingis.

Oh, and an NBA-record-high $21.3 million trade exception and a projected $30 million in salary cap space for potential trade and free agency acquisitions this summer.
