LAS VEGAS – A potential blowout-in the-making wound up being a game too-close-for-comfort for the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday afternoon at the Thomas & Mack Center.
The Mavs led Croatia by 19 points in the first half, only to see that lead trimmed to just four points with under a minute left. But center Shayne Whittington tallied four straight points down the stretch and the Mavs held on for a 79-71 victory in the MGM Resorts NBA Summer League.
That closer than expected win increased the Mavs’ record to 3-1 and put them squarely in the middle of the playoff mix.
