As expected, Mavericks fans who cared enough to come to American Airlines Center and miss Sunday night’s start of the Academy Awards did not see a home team victory.
New Orleans won, 126-109, despite a not-so-monstrous night by Anthony Davis. The Pelicans shot 54-percent from the field and pulled away with ease after Dallas whittled the deficit to four points early in the fourth quarter.
Fans did get to see 39-year-old Mavericks icon Dirk Nowitzki score a season-high 23 points on Nowitzki Bobblehead Night.
Fans also got the satisfaction of booing former Maverick Rajon Rondo every time he touched the ball and, as a bonus, saw 20-year-old rookie Dennis Smith Jr.
