HOUSTON - The Mavericks’ young players are in audition mode during this lost season.
Salah Mejri, who may not be young, but is only in his second NBA season, Dwight Powell and Justin Anderson all are getting extended chances to shine because of the ridiculous number of injuries this team has suffered.
Dirk Nowitzki, J.J. Barea and Andrew Bogut - three of their top six or seven players - remain sidelined. All will be out another week or three, most likely. So to try to squeeze something good out of this, the young players are getting a big opportunity.
