The Mavericks must improve in this area in order to become a more efficient offensive team

Kristaps Porzingis, the key addition in the Mavericks' recent trades, stayed on a court for a long time after practice on Wednesday.

Porzingis focused on the catch-and-shoot play. There were no defenders. Just Porzingis taking a feed from a coach and launching 3-pointers.

In one stretch, he made 17 of 20 attempts from a corner.

The Mavericks could only watch and dream. Porzingis will not play this season as he recovers from surgery to repair a torn ACL in the left knee.

When Porzingis joins the club next season, as the Mavericks plan, he will add a needed element to the offense: an effective long-range shooter.
