Source: Mavericks trying to add former Baylor player, Nuggets coach Melvin Hunt to staff

The Dallas Mavericks are trying to hire former Denver Nuggets head coach Melvin Hunt to be an assistant on Rick Carlisle’s staff.
A source said that nothing is official yet, but that negotiations are ongoing and it appears to be headed on a good course for hiring Hunt.
The 45-year-old Hunt, a Baylor product, has been coaching in the NBA since 1999, mostly as an assistant with Houston, Cleveland, the LA Lakers and Denver before becoming interim head coach for the Nuggets when Brian Shaw was dismissed in March.
Carlisle has an opening on his staff, a source said, because Monte Mathis will be leaving the organization.
