Source: Mavericks' Dwight Powell plans to opt in for final year of current contract, sign extension in July

Update, 11:57 a.m. Thursday: We now have even more clarity on whether Dwight Powell will return to the Dallas Mavericks or test free agency.

A source told SportsDay's Brad Townsend that Powell plans to opt in to the last season of a four-year, $37 million deal he signed with the Mavericks in July 2016. He then plans to sign an extension after July 5, the source said.

Powell has until June 29 to make that decision official.

Told by reliable source that, contrary to Yahoo report last month, Dwight Powell plans to opt in and play for the Mavs at $10.
