Rick Carlisle says Mavs must 'stay the course' despite being gutted by injuries

BOSTON - The losses keep piling up. So do the injuries. And the Mavericks found themselves Wednesday night actually feeling blessed that their situation didn't get considerably worse.

When his teammates saw J.J. Barea plant his left foot, crumple to the ground and start pounding the floor at the TD Garden in serious pain, they thought the worst.

"We thought it was the Achilles," Harrison Barnes said.

That would have been a catastrophic blow to the Mavericks, who already feel like they are snakebit on the health front.

But even after a fourth-quarter comeback left them just short in a 90-83 loss to Boston, Barea and company knew they had dodged a bullet in one respect.
