Friday will be a momentous day for former Maverick Jason Kidd, though not a surprising event to anyone who even remotely followed his basketball career.
Kidd will be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as a member of the hall's 13-member Class of 2018. A Mavericks contingent that is expected to include Dirk Nowitzki, owner Mark Cuban, president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson and coach Rick Carlisle, will be in Springfield, Mass. to see Kidd and another ex-Maverick, Steve Nash, inducted.
During a recent phone interview with The News, Kidd spoke fondly of his two playing stints in Dallas (1994-96 and 2008-2012), what winning the 2011 NBA championship as a Maverick meant to his career and what it was like to be a teammate of Nowitzki, who no doubt will be inducted into the Naismith Hall in his first year of eligibility, which will be three years after his retirement.
