Modernized

Mark Cuban fancies himself a bit of a pioneer. The label of “rogue” also works, though its connotation is a big negative these days.

He’s quick to say that if 29 teams are doing one thing, his Mavericks will do something else. And, in many ways, he’s not lying. For the last two seasons, Dallas has relied on a 30-something star who relies on mid-range jump shots and an undersized 2-guard who can’t hit threes. The Mavericks’ roster makeup has defied conventional, “modern” NBA standards for a while, even dating back to 2011 and beyond. Still, the Mavericks have made the playoffs year after year.
