The Mavericks’ swingman never likes to take games off. He’s been known to argue aggressively whenever coach Rick Carlisle and the training staff have suggested a night off.
That’s what makes Monday’s news that Matthews has a fractured right fibula so tough for the Mavericks to swallow.
Matthews was having his best shooting season in three years as a Maverick. He had missed just one of the first 63 games this season before a hip problem sidelined him last week.
Then came Saturday.
