SAN FRANCISCO - Pain vs. gain.
Like most trade-deadline years, that's what it comes down to for the Mavericks, but this year it's even more pronounced as the hours dwindle until Thursday's 2 p.m.buzzer.
They are being offered players - solid veterans in some cases - but those offers are not carrying with them great incentives when it comes to draft picks, a league source said Wednesday night. For that reason, the Mavericks are hesitant to take on those players with multiyear contracts still on the books.
A prime example is the Lakers' Jordan Clarkson, who is due nearly $26-million over the next two seasons.
