One of the knocks on Justin Anderson, the Mavericks’ first-round draft pick, was his lack of a consistent outside shot.
That tends to be a problem for shooting guards in the NBA.
But as SMU and Hall of Fame coach Larry Brown said recently, an outside shot is the one commodity that basketball players can improve.
It’s hard to get taller or quicker. Most players don’t suddenly learn how to rebound or defend, although both can be stressed more through energy and focus.
But a shot can be improved through repetition and mechanics if a player is willing to put in hours of work.
