Dallas Mavericks’ lead assistant Monte Mathis will be joining the Orlando coaching staff under Scott Skiles, Mathis confirmed on Thursday.
“It was a great 10-year run in Dallas,” Mathis said. “I’m proud of all the accomplishments we had and very excited for the new challenges ahead. I’m gonna miss all the friends I’ve made over the years.”
Mathis was with the team during its first run to the NBA Finals in 2006 and remained on the staff when Rick Carlisle took over for Avery Johnson in 2008.
Mathis moved up the staff and was lead assistant last season.
