Landing with Mavs was ‘dream come true’ for Justin Anderson

DALLAS — Watching Thursday’s NBA Draft with 100-150 friends and family members, former Virginia standout Justin Anderson admits that he was nervous.

Anxiously waiting to hear his name called, Anderson wasn’t nervous because he didn’t know where his professional journey would be begin. Instead, he was concerned that he’d be unable to hear his name called due to the rainy forecast as the satellite feed in the area continued to be disrupted during the telecast.

Still, by night’s end it would be a dream come true for the 21-year-old when he finally received a call from Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson and coach Rick Carlisle, who selected him with the 21st overall pick in the first round.
