After his team "held" Chicago to 28 first-quarter points Monday night, Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle channeled Bill Murray at his deadpan best.

"I'm ready to throw a party."

Hip hip hurray. In the season's first two games, after all, opponents had blitzed the Mavericks with first quarters of 37 and 46 points.

After surrendering an average of 128.5 points in those first two games, Dallas limited the Bulls to 109 in Monday's victory. Yahoo.

One week into the season, with NBA teams scoring at a 112.9-point clip -- 6.3 more than last year -- Carlisle and his peers are assessing whether this spike is the league's new normal.
