Injuries, missed chances, lack of execution: Mavericks overtime loss to Utah is a snapshot of entire season

If ever there was a snapshot of the Mavericks, season, Friday night was it.

J.J. Barea goes down with another injury. Failure to grab a rebound on a missed free throw leads to a game-swerving Utah basket.

Mavericks lose.

This, or something very similar, has happened so many times in this agonizing season.

And it doesn't get more demoralizing than what they went through as the Jazz pulled out a 112-107 overtime victory.

The Mavericks had a three-point lead and Rudy Gobert, in the midst of a colossal game, clanged two free throws. But the second miss got tipped around, Gobert ended up with the ball and 3 seconds later, Joe Johnson hit a 3-pointer to tie the game at 107 with 1:47 left.
