Triggering a surreal scene at American Airlines Center, the Mavericks traded forward Harrison Barnes -- in the middle of Wednesday night's victory over Charlotte -- to Sacramento for Zach Randolph and Justin Jackson.
The move will clear about $22 million in salary cap space for Dallas entering the start of free agency next summer.
The trade was consummated during the second half, as Barnes played 8:49 of the third quarter. He was informed of the trade and didn't return to the game, though he remained on the bench and cheered his ex-teammates to a 99-93 victory.
"He is a special guy," Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle said.
