Trailing by as many as 39 before suffering a 116-90 defeat Friday night at home against the Southwest Division-leading San Antonio Spurs, the Mavericks (29-25) had little time to make the proper adjustments while traveling to Memphis. The Mavs then found themselves in a dogfight during Saturday’s showdown, pushing the division rival Grizzlies to overtime before surviving the extra period with a much-needed 114-110 win. The Mavericks will now try to build on Saturday’s victory, concluding play before the All-Star break at home Tuesday night in a second meeting of the season against the streaking Utah Jazz.
“We just talked about competing,” 13-time All-Star Dirk Nowitzki said after Saturday’s win.
